The condition of Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico remains serious, and doctors they are doing everything possible to stabilize it, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kaliniak after meetings of the State Security Council and the government, quoted by world agencies, writes BTA.
„Robert Fizzo's condition remains serious, doctors are doing everything possible to stabilize the patient,”, he said. “We cannot yet announce that the situation is developing in a positive direction and that his life is out of danger. The wounds are very serious, added Kaliniak.
The perpetrator of the assassination attempt against Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico acted alone, Interior Minister Matus Šutaj Eštok announced for his part. The attack was pre-planned, he specified.
Eshtok confirmed that the attack was politically motivated, and the suspect had also participated in anti-government protests.
The alleged attacker cited the government's policies on the prosecution and the media as reasons for the shooting, the interior minister said.
"This is a lone wolf that has become radicalized lately after the presidential elections," Eshtok said.
Police have already charged the detainee, who is a 71-year-old Slovak national, with attempted murder.
„Slovak police are working on one version of the attack and the suspect is accused of attempted murder,”, the interior minister also said.
